1999. This is what the airfield looked like back then. When the Russian army withdrew in 1993, they took with them much of the site’s infrastructure – such as the concrete taxiways and the hangars’ steel doors. The former military site was abandoned, even desolate, but a wide open space and in the process of being reclaimed by nature. It was inspiring.
